There are many ways to prolong the life of your nail powder. Preparation of the nails is one of the most important.
Firstly, please ensure you wash your hands and nails with an oil free soap (dry thoroughly), then use Sistaco prep pads to ensure that all unseen oil or creams are removed. Finally, gently buff/file the surface of your nail sufficiently to ensure the base coat has a slightly roughened surface to grip to.
Secondly, please ensure you only apply a very thin coat of each step. Thick application will potentially mean that the application does not set throughout and cause it to be unstable; it can also cause a 'heat spike' when under the LED.
When applying your Base Coat it is very important to start from the middle of the nail and push down in a kind of 'pushing movement' towards the cuticle to ensure that the Base Coat, which is what will keep your application on, gets into the grooves of the nail plate that you created by slightly buffing/filing the nail plate prior. Dont apply the Base Coat as you would the Top Coat, which can be simply applied from Base to Tip. The Base Coat needs to adhere thoroughly to the nail plate and this application method will ensure this. Also you can turn and push the formulation up towards the tip of the nail plate also when applying the Base Coat and this will get the application gently up and over the tip of the nail; ensuring the tip is capped.
Thirdly and very important - go easy on the powder! LESS IS MORE! Our powders are so fine you only need a small amount. If you use too much this will effect the life of your nail coverage. You can use either our Mineral Bond applicator or Dual Applicator for our 'Classic' range of powders or our Mineral Bond applicator only for our 'Metallic and Holographic' ranges. Whatever you use apply lightly; powder cannot adhere to another layer of powder below so if too thick, you would be sitting your Top Coat on something that is already not adhered to your Base Coat. Make sure all excess powder is brushed off the nail lightly, prior to applying your Top Coat.
Lastly - Another method of capping the free edge; you can do this without touching your skin if your nails are long enough! This is such a commonly missed step when applying polish. Just run the brush horizontally along the end tip of your nail plate. I have attached a picture to show you.. This ensures water, oil and dirt can't enter under the coats causing lifting or chipping. If your nails are short; this may be difficult as you should not get formulation on the skin. However you can do it gently with the Base Coat as mentioned above.
One last thing! ensure you don’t go over the edges of your nail with the Base Coat as this will give a slight, sometimes unnoticeable lump, which will allow the product to lift at the edges. Using our Perfect Edge product will help with this. You should always keep 2mm away from the nail edge as they do in a salon.
One more last thing! Once your application if finished and you wash off any excess powder, do use our Elixir daily which will help with longevity and keep your nails nourished. It has Vit B and E and will help so do not forget to apply daily; with or without our Sistaco Mineral Bond application on.
